Airbnb Explores Crypto Payments — CEO Sees ‘a Revolution Happening in Crypto’

Airbnb disrupted the vacation and travel industry with a progressive online marketplace. Since 2007, Airbnb has served more than one billion customers. The current platform has more than four million hosts listing 5.6 million properties for rent.
The company uses a range of payment systems and options across national boundaries. To date, cryptocurrency is not a payment option. The issue arose relatively unexpectedly when a random Twitter survey gave customers a chance to voice their views.
The Survey Says Crypto
Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky posted a survey on Twitter asking consumer suggestions: what should Airbnb add in 2022? The top-ranked response was Cryptocurrency payments. Notably, crypto ranked above discounts and better customer service.
Chesky added on Twitter that “Crypto payments is inclusive of a variety of token ideas.” With about $336 billion processed since 2013, the payments volume on Airbnb is impressive.
Today- Traditional Payments on Airbnb
Current payment options are traditional. Airbnb accepts major credit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, and JCB. Online payment methods work well, including Google Pay and PayPal. In addition, renters can use debit cards that work like credit cards.
Open to Adding Crypto
Airbnb is an outside-the-box concept. The CEO revealed that the founder of Coinbase was an Airbnb employee. Chesky and Airbnb have followed the crypto space over the years.
Perhaps the evolution of cryptocurrency has reached the level of choice for Airbnb. Airbnb leader expresses excitement for applications that help people live better in their daily routines. The CEO was asked whether Airbnb was considering crypto payments. Mr. Chesky replied: Yes.
