AMC is Soon to Accept Cryptocurrencies

The biggest movie theater chain in the U.S. and Europe and the whole world, AMC Entertainment, has just revealed that it aims to accept concession payments and online ticket purchases in crypto by the end of this year. AMC Entertainment currently owns or operates around 950 theaters and 10,500 screens all over the world.

Adam Aron, the CEO of AMC Entertainment, tweeted as such:

“Cryptocurrency enthusiasts: you likely know @AMCTheatres has announced we will accept bitcoin for online tickets and concession payments by year-end 2021. I can confirm today that when we do so, we also expect that we similarly will accept Ethereum, Litecoin and bitcoin cash.”

AMC Entertainment’s plan to accept payments in four types of cryptocurrency was announced in an earnings call held in August. CEO Adam Aron gave further details on Twitter following the call:

“By year-end, we will have the technology in place to use Apple Pay and Google Pay in our online ticketing, and in a breakthrough, we also expect by year-end to accept payment online in bitcoin. That’s a historic step for AMC.”

AMC Entertainment CEO continued his tweet as such:

“I see that many of you are crypto enthusiasts. AMC is pleased to get out in front by planning to accept payment online in bitcoin.”

Adam Aron further explained:

“If it remains safe and reliable to use, it would seem that cryptocurrency will get even more important in future years.”

Although Dogecoin is arguably the most esteemed cryptocurrency by retail investors, it left out this coin in its initial announcement. However, when the CEO asked his followers on Twitter whether the company should also accept Dogecoin, more than three-fourths of voters said yes. Adam Aron stated:

“SO FASCINATING! Dogecoin Poll was by far my highest ever read tweet. In 24 hours, 4.2 million views, my most ever retweets, most ever replies. 140,000 votes 77% yes 23% no. You think AMC should accept Dogecoin. Now we need to figure out how to do that. Stay tuned!”
